My little fishing trip today.

Today I decided to revisit a lake I gew up on or around. It is called William's Lake. I haven't been back since I left the area and boy has it changed. There are houses where I used to swim and fish. The upside is that is only about 1/4 - 1/3 developed. So there is still some fishing to be had. I am also told the Department of Inland Fisheries stocks the lake and had done so on June 1st.

The lake is split into two sections by a road. The city was smart enough to put in underroad piping to connect the two parts, when the paved it. Cunard Pond is the small part of the lake. It was created a long time ago when a road was put in to a rock quarry.

Today was an all around wet one. It did dry up around noon. I fished from 11:00 am until 2:30 pm. The fish were a mixed bag too. The temperature was hovering around 14 celcius. I didn't get a water temperature as it was too hard to get close enough to dip the thermometer.

I did catch 3 yellow perch. Not too keen on them but when nothing else is biting I guess they will do. Then there were the brookies.I caught 11 of these. It wasn't hard to tell they were stocked fish. These ones did not have the usual brownish gold shade I am used to seeing. These were more dark on top and silvery along the bottom.

I have to say these were spunky fish. And they were not easily fooled. I tried just about everything I had. There were dozens of them looking at my muddlers but only one took a bite. He was the easiest of the day. Just as I was trying to bring it to hand it threw the hook and took off. I tried olive, grey, and tan Klinkhammers down to size 16, Adams Parachute, Elk Hair Caddis. They were all looking but not taking. I finally got a look at a few of the flies coming of the water. They were tiny. The smallest fly I had was a size 16 mafly imitation. It was made of Grizzly fiber tail, Maxima tippet body, Grizzly hackle and white yarn wingpost. It didn't match the flies exactly. It was still a little too big, but was close. That was the ticket and accounted for 10 more brookies. I will put up a page for that pattern as soon as I get a picture of one. I am not exactly sure where I got that pattern from or what it's name is. It is not an original by me.

So that is about it for today.
