Tuesday July 10, 2007River Philip, Nova Scotia This is only a small part of this river. It is actually quite a ways up from the mouth of the river. This is where the trout fishing is good. If you want to find the good salmon fishing you need to go down river quite a bit. The river is wide there and has many pools. First trip this year I was skunked. Not even a bite! Doh! LOL. I didn't manage to get a temp for the water this time around. Lost my thermometer somewhere:) The air temperature was about 14 Celsius when I arrived and got up to about 18 Celsius by the time I left. I am not familiar with this stretch of water at all. I did look at the salmon pools on the way up and the river looked like the water was about normal. Since then I have been told by a good friend of mine that the water was too low. I am told it needs to be considerably higher to be fishable. It was a great day on the river even without fish. It does the body, mind, and soul good.
This is the path back to where I fished.
This is just a little below where I started to fish.
More scenery where I arrived.
Looks like great holding spots along the other bank but not much of a current running through here.
More scenery!
Tail end of the first place I fished.
More of the same.
Better picture.
Fished the other side to no avail. Plenty of cover though.
Head of the run.
This is a fairly steep bank leading down to the river. I fished along here on the way back.
Something was on the hatch. Didn't quite mean to get the fly in the picture:)
Disgusting!!!
More disgusting. They are using the river as a 4 wheeler trail. This is entrance number 2.
Old 4 wheel trail that was replaced by the one above!
The third entrance across the river.
Nothing here! Doh.
The next few shots were taken while walking through the flat water.
Couldn't find anything in the cover from the fallen log on down.
Nice semi-deep hole.
Tail section of that.
I thought this looked a little interesting. Just a little show of how the river has cut it's path.
The last little section I fished. Mostly casting to the over growth on the right about mid picture. |
