There is more to fly tying than just making flies for fishing. Fly tying is an art. From time to time I tie some flies just for display purposes. I also like to tie what are called Brooch Pins. I have designed and tied a few flies for the Canadian Military. Check them out on my Support The Troops page.
Below you will find pictures of flies I have invented and tied for my 3 daughters, and a few of my close friends at work. If for some reason any of these flies are actual known patterns my humble apologies. These are actually made right off the top of my head. My daughters actually inspired me to start doing these flies. They asked me if I could tie them there very own flies. So I asked "What are your 2 favorite colors?" And off into design land I went. These flies are tied in the style of most wet Atlantic Salmon Flies. The reason being is that they are the easiest to produce an attractive fly from.
These flies were never designed or tied with fishing in mind. I never intended these flies to catch fish, just peoples eye. If you ever do tie and try them with any success I would love to hear about it.
You will notice that all these flies were designed and tied for females. The guys I know want them tied proper for fishing so you won't see much of those here. Unless they catch some fish of course. But that is another page.

Well my oldest cat Sophie had a little accident the other day. She got the top part of her tail caught under a rolling chair. Fortunately she was not hurt badly but did lose a small tuft of hair. Being a fly tyer I saw the clump of hair on the floor as possibly good wing material. I designed this and the next fly using that hair. |
Both of these flies were named The Cat's Ass, since the hair for the wing came from a place very close to there. The top one I decided to call Cat's Ass Dark and this one Cat's Ass Light. Of course these are one of a kind flies becuse I have no intention of shaving my cat for materials :-). They are not very well tied either but who cares since this was just for fun! |

This is a fun fly I designed for a friend at work. I named it The Beagle and it was tied for my good friend Heather Deschaines. |
And here is the Brooch Pin I made for her as well. |
This is another fly I designed for a friend at work named Heather Barrieault. At Heather's request I named this fly the Hot Pink Bitch. |
And the Brooch Pin to match. |
Here is a fly called the Guardian Angel. It was tied for a spiritual friend of mine, from work, named Lindell Kennedy. |
Lindell's matching Brooch Pin. |
Lisa Frye is another friend from work. She has a passion for Turtles. Hence the name Turtle. |
And Lisa received a matching Brooch Pin as well. |
This is the Black 'n Blue Newf. This one was tied for Tracey Osmond who is originally from Newfoundland. |
I tied Tracey a matching Brooch Pin too. |
I designed and tied this fly for my boss! Now I know what your thinking! Suck-up right? But I did not do this one for cookie points. I did it for friendship. All you have to do is look at the banner at the top of the page to understand why. She designed that graphic for me. |

Fairly recently I have been taking the bus to work. My part to help with the environment. And saving the cost of gas. I have met a really nice person who takes the same bus. We talk just about every day and seem to have similar insights. Since my new friend makes the start of the day pleasant, I tied this fly for her. |
This fly I designed and tied for a new friend of mine. Her name is Ashley Sullivan. She is from Newfoundland and is one of the nicest folks I have yet to meet. Ashley requested I call this one the Sully after her last name. This is a lady interested in fly fishing and that is rare. |
Ashley's new brooch pin. |

Another fly designed and tied for a lady who makes my morning trip to work a pleasure. I was more than glad to do it. I named it the Black Ruby simply because of it's colors. I think this might be worth using for fall salmon. |
