This is a nymph pattern I designed back in the late 1990's. It is a combination of many parts from other nymph patterns. It took about a year of tweaking to get this pattern right. This is the most productive trout fly I have ever used. In the larger sizes it works great as a dragonfly/damselfly nymph. In the smaller sizes it is a great general purpose nymph

Instructions:

I find this fly very easy to tie. Although in the larger sizes you will need to do a lot of dubbing to get the nice body taper. Personally I tie these in sizes 8-14, but they are still very good in larger and smaller sizes. Tie them to suit your area.

In the larger sizes, down to size 10,  tie the tail and legs in at a size that equals the shank length of the hook. I know this is disproportionate to most conventional nymphs but in the larger sizes you are trying to imitate Dragonflies and Damselflies. The longer tail and legs give this a much bigger silhouette and give the fly a lot of action in the water.

In the smaller sizes, from 12 on down, tie the tail and legs in a size equal to the length of the body from the thorax back to the start of the tail.

I counter-wrap the gold wire to reinforce the dubbed body. You can do as you choose.. I also tie the legs in the following fashion. Small clumps of webby hackle tied in on the side of the fly right between the body and thorax.
